New York, New York (December 3, 2010) Darring Ateliers is taking knits to a new level with a revolutionary line of men's contemporary sportswear.
Applying innovations and design details normally reserved for outerwear and wovenslike articulated sleeves, bi-swing shoulders, throat latches and more Darring has virtually reinvented the knitwear classification, creating a fashion category for men with striking attitude, strong lines, and unparalleled construction. The result is timeless style with perfect tailoring.
Men's knits have traditionally lacked innovative styling, instead relying on the hand, fabric, or embellishments, with very few unique design details, says Darring Ateliers' founder Chris Nonn. Our new line not only incorporates exciting designs and superb knit quality, but other distinctive detailing that you will not see on any other label. It's styling that defines the Darring mana man who is not afraid to get out of life's comfort zones, who takes risks and reaps the rewards.
Chris Nonn has been designing men's sportswear since 1998 for top clothing brands including Dickies, Avirex, Cockpit, Van Heusen, Kenneth Cole, Jordache, and CBGB's. He has also been a fashion industry producer, orchestrating high-visibility fashion shows, brand specific trade shows, and videos.
Before starting Darring Ateliers, Nonn worked in sales for cutting-edge brands like True Religion, Ed Hardy, Morphine Generation and English Laundry. He was also creative director for the resurgent Ed Roth label. As part of the Ed Roth start-up team, he served in many roles, including designing, production, marketing and sales. Working with so many major brands, in so many different capacities, Nonn developed a strong sense of what appealed to men, and his design vision for Darring was influenced by those experiences.
Many of our silhouettes are inspired by popular motorcycle and military clothing, adds Nonn. We have a full line of high-quality fleece hoodies, for example, that incorporate bi-swing shoulders for easy arm action. This is completely unique in a hoodie. Nonn also used antiqued German silver to create his signature piston zipper pull that is an actual scaled-down piston.
Other styles in the new Darring Ateliers line include the GT Shawl Collar Sweater, the EasyRider Hooded Pullover, the Motosport Short Crew Neck Shirt, the Wingman V-Neck Shirt, and the Twin Cam Henley, among others. Nonn and his production team gave fanatical attention to every detail, with fit, fabric, wash, stitching, pockets, piecing and hardware all meticulously designed and executed. As a result, each Darring knitwear creation utilizes atypical, distinguishing elements like quilted shoulder and elbow patches, articulated sleeves, military front pockets, biker back piecing and patches, epaulets, D shanks, throat latches, chest pockets, pigment dyes and more.
