Cashmere Doesn't Have To Cost A Fortune

You likely know cashmere as something that comes with a heartbreakingly high price and a mind-meltingly soft touch. And while the latter is an inherent quality of the fabric, the former is such only because other guys make it so. The JackThreads Cashmere series was created to make a luxuriously rich, warm sweater attainable and accessible for the everyday guy.

With the same slim silhouette and sportswear-inspired details as The JackThreads Daily Sweater, JT Cashmere builds visual and textural richness into any look, whether worn with sweatpants for five-star lounging, or dress pants for a refreshing take on workwear.

We could charge twice as much for sweaters of this quality, but we’re not, because we believe that luxurious softness like this deserves to be worn, felt, and loved by as many guys as possible.

“But what makes cashmere so fancy in the first place?” you might be wondering. For starters, cashmere yarn is spun from individual hairs combed from the underbelly of Mongolian Cashmere goats. Found in the grasslands of Northern China, Mongolia, and Afghanistan, the goats’ hairs are collected during the spring molting season, when coarse, winter fleeces are shed, exposing fine underbelly hairs. After being collected by hand, the goat hair is cleaned, refined, baled, and spun into yarn.

The labor-intensive process of refining cashmere fibers, and the fact that each goat is only able to produce small quantities of cashmere each year, is why cashmere yarns sell for an average of $114 per pound.

JackThreads
When it comes to cashmere quality, it’s worth noting that knit, not softness, is what you should focus on. The ultra-fine fibers allow for more tightly woven fabric, which insulates by trapping air eight times better than wool.

Two-ply cashmere yarns, like the ones used to make The JackThreads Cashmere Sweater, are both warmer and less prone to pilling as compared to single-ply yarns.

And because value encompasses quality just as much as price and wearability, we've flexed our muscles to ensure that our manufacturer is up to snuff, choosing to work with a factory that has a global reputation for spinning and weaving the highest quality cashmere yarns available.
JackThreads
Cut in the same styles as The JackThreads Daily Sweater, JT Cashmere offers maximum versatility, made for daily use regardless of whether your day consists of never leaving your couch or a never-ending string of meetings. The 'Dorito' detail, borrowed from vintage sweatshirts, keeps the sweater grounded and wearable, making it the embodiment of effortless, easy style.
JackThreads
Our carefully selected range of colors, too, makes for easy pairing regardless of what else you’ve got on. More subdued than the color line-up of The Daily Sweater, our cashmere hues have been chosen for the way they capitalize on the fabric's rich, soft visual texture.

But in order to keep your cashmere feeling soft, you've got to treat it right. That means dry cleaning or delicate hand laundering, and never ever hanging it:

Every Man Should Own A Cardigan: Here's Why

JackThreads

Somewhere on the spectrum of style, between a blazer and crewneck sweater, lies the cardigan. Named after Major General James Thomas Brudenell, the 7th Earl of Cardigan, this sartorially nimble number has lost traction in recent years thanks to ill-conceived stereotypes (i.e. socially awkward college professors and prep school bros). The current outdoor technical trend has also played a big role in pushing the cardigan back to the forgotten depths of closets around the globe.

And that's a damn shame, because there are few clothing items that can dress up casual pieces, make your formal gear more wearable, and stand in for a jacket or vest as well as the cardigan can. The resurrection of The Forgotten Menswear Staple begins now.

JackThreads
1. Don’t view it as a sweater. A cardigan is an informal blazer, but more comfortable and versatile. There are a number of ways you can take advantage of its wearability (which we'll get into below), but the first step in your transformation is to forget any and all sweater affiliations.

2. Get ya buttons right. The bottom button on a cardigan should ALWAYS be unbuttoned. What you do with the top button and everything in-between is a matter of personal preference.

3. Fold, don't hang. This goes for cardigans and sweaters -- don’t hang them! You’ll get hanger dimples and, unlike face dimples, they're not cute. Fold 'em and put them in a drawer instead.

4. Wear it with a tie and trousers. You can dress up a cardigan as easily as you can dress it down. Add neckwear to an otherwise casual jeans-and-white-button-down outfit and boom, you've just elevated a daily look. But unless you're heading to an upscale club or lounge, a tie will probably look out of place during a night out. That being said, it's ideal for dinner and drinks, or a workplace in which a blazer and tie would be too formal.

5. Fit, fit, fit. It's all about fit. You'll be wearing something underneath, so your cardigan should be snug but not tight. The hem should cover your belt and, like button-downs and tees, the shoulder seam should end where your shoulder naturally ends.

6. Cuff or no cuff? When wearing a shirt under a cardigan, you don’t have to show cuff like you do with a sweater (remember our first point?!?!). If you're layering it under a blazer, go ahead and show off the cuff of both your shirt and cardigan.
JackThreads
7. The third part of a three-piece. Why yes, my brethren, a cardigan can take the place of a vest. Because sometimes a full three-piece is too formal, and a cardigan takes things to a more casual level, making it a true daily look. Match your sweater to your suit (obviously) and be sure to only layer a thin number (cotton or merino, for example) under a blazer or suit jacket, as anything else will be too bulky.

8. Your color choice depends on what you already own. A cardigan in a solid color (dark gray, navy, military green, etc.) is always a great choice. But if you already own one in a basic hue, try something bolder.

9. And if you do take the bold route... be sure to keep the rest of your outfit relatively neutral and pattern-free (think white Oxford and jeans). It’ll balance out your look and make the cardigan stand out even more.
JackThreads
10. It's your most valuable travel companion. Sometimes you want to look fly when you fly, but wearing a blazer is too stuffy for a cramped three hour flight to Jacksonville. A cardigan will up the formality of, say, a t-shirt and jeans (pictured above), and gives you the flexibility to take it on and off as you please.

11. Three season player. There are very few clothing items that boast nine month windows of wearability, and a cardigan is one of them. Wear it as a coat in early fall (see below), rock it as a lightweight jacket in late spring, and break it out as a mid-layer during the winter.

12. Inverse it. In point seven we spoke about wearing a thin cotton cardigan as a waistcoat. For the chunkier knitwear in your life, rock it over a blazer to add texture and head-turning contrast.

The Making of the JackThreads Daily Sweater

The best sweaters are the ones you wear habitually, and the ones you can slip on with little more than jeans and a t-shirt, knowing you’ll look smart and feel comfortable all day long.

The JackThreads Daily Sweater is just that. We took the seasonal versatility and wearability of knitwear you already love and remixed the fit. With elements culled from vintage sportswear, The Daily Sweater lays the groundwork for a modern, casual silhouette, and comes in three styles — crewneck, v-neck, and cardigan — for every preference and occasion.

The twenty-first century menswear Renaissance is grounded in a look that’s equal parts traditional, comfortable, and cutting-edge, keeping pace with the breakneck speed of contemporary culture.

"It’s not your dad’s everyday sweater. From the start, we thought about styling it over tees, rather than a button-up — but that’s not to say that you can’t wear it over a button-up."

— Kat Stupp, JackThreads Design Director
JackThreads
We created The Daily Sweater to meet sportswear in the middle, building a more universal, flattering fit with casual details and a luxurious handfeel.

"As far as details go, The Daily Sweater was inspired by a sweatshirt. The 'Dorito' detail on the crewneck comes from vintage sweatshirts, which adds interest and makes it more casual than your typical sweater."

— Kat Stupp
JackThreads
Made from 90% two-ply cotton for breathability, structure, and year-round versatility, and 10% cashmere for luxurious softness, The Daily Sweater offers maximum wearability, made for, quite literally, daily use. What's more, the sweater's intentionally selected, rich hues allow for easy complementary pairing and layering, seamlessly slipping into your regular wardrobe rotation.
JackThreads

"We have a lot of color in The Daily Tee and JT Flannel, and the sweaters are meant to be worn with those. So you can pair color with color in a complementary manner, but you also have the option for something more neutral."
